3D ANIMATION FROM PIXEL POWER CHARACTER GENERATOR
Stand 7.138, IBC2006, Amsterdam, 8 September 2006: CG-3D
is a new option for the Clarity range of SD/HD switchable graphics
generators from Pixel Power. It offers true real-time 3D animation
with parametric control of elements, lighting and moves. Like the
rest of Clarity’s functionality, it is capable of both automated
control and automated input. CG-3D is a field upgrade for existing
Clarity HD/SD systems.
The result is the 3D animation capability of a dedicated system
with no requirement for 3D experience on the part of the operator.
Complex models can be imported from specialist 3D systems (including
Autodesk 3ds) and manipulated within Clarity. These models can be
edited – or new ones created – with the built-in controls,
parametric primitives and keyframe structure.

2D text and graphics layers from Clarity can be texture mapped
onto 3D models, including live video feeds, animated text, cell
animations, images and clocks. Lighting control is included to
complete the functionality. Automated data input – for example from
sports statistics systems – can be fed directly onto the surfaces of
3D objects.
“Viewers are expecting ever more sophisticated ways of presenting
information, particularly in high profile programming like sports
coverage,” says James Gilbert, MD of Pixel Power. “What the CG-3D
option gives producers is a way of creating dynamic information
presentation using very sophisticated 3D animations, but with the
simplicity of operation you need in a highly-pressurised live
broadcast.”
