WLS-CHANNEL 7 CHICAGO UNVEILS NEW LOOK WITH CLARITY
Cambridge, England, June 27, 2005…
Pixel Power Ltd. (www.pixelpower.com) announced that WLS-Channel 7 in Chicago, Illinois,
utilized two Clarity 500 systems to unveil a whole new on-air look for all of its newscasts.
Channel 7 is the market leader in the Chicago area.
The ABC-owned station gave itself a sleek and classy makeover, complete with new openings
for its newscasts, new graphics and a new animated take on its familiar logo at the bottom
right corner of the screen. Tom Hebel, vice president of local programming/creative services,
states, "Our whole point was to evolve the graphic look without jarring the viewer,"
Hebel said. "As the market leader, we want to stay ahead of the curve."
Clarity 500 is the multi-channel solution to any SD graphics requirement. Able to combine
text, stills, video clips, sound and live video in each channel, the Clarity 500 offers
unprecedented power and flexibility. Available with TG, CG or GX level software features,
Clarity 500 provides two fully independent SD channels. While preview and editing windows
are presented on the Windows XGA monitor, the system also provides dual SDI preview outputs
with key
Ideally suited to both news production and master control promotions, each Clarity 500
channel provides dual real-time live video squeezeback. In addition, the Video Clips option
for Clarity 500 provides two channels of uncompressed video and key from an internal video
disk array. Video clips may be used as backgrounds or resized and relocated using the systems
internal squeezeback capability.
At WLS the Clarity 500 systems are closely integrated into the station’s AVID iNews
newsroom automation system using the Pixel Power Control Centre Server and Pixel Power ActiveX
plug-in for AVID iNews. Used in combination this pair of tools provides fast, interactive,
visual graphics search tools conveniently placed within the producers desktop working environment.
Newsroom staff may search for graphics, request new images and fill out templates, all with
full resolution preview at their desk.
Completing the automation solution WLS have implemented playout automation using AVID iNews
ControlAir and the Pixel Power Device Manager for ControlAir. The Pixel Power driver for
Clarity provides intelligent control of Clarity, adding a re-ordering graphic events instantly
as the newscast evolves.
